Engen Dynamic Road Race

It started off right next to the new MOSES MABIDA stadium, was really amazing, but back to the racing. It was quite a chilled start and the batch was about 40 people, all u/16.
About 2km into the race there was an attack, nothing scary but we reeled him in and he was quiet for the rest of the race. Then the pace was really slow and it was frustrating. We finally arrived to the first climb, at the 15km mark. The bunch decreased in a matter of seconds which was good, there were now six of us, all of them racing road nationally. The climb was only about 7km long but as soon as we hit it the first of many attacks were launched, one after the other, it was going crazy, any way we tried hard to get away, James Wewege and my self, were working as a team and even that didn’t get us away, but as soon as we caught the guy that tried to brake away the pace decreased to about 10km/h at times. It was really annoying; no one wanted to pull, so we all got to the top all together.
From the top it was down hill all the way to the highway , reaching speeds of 70km/h, the restricted gears on our bikes made it hard to stay with the other 100km riders but the group managed to stay together , still more attacks were lunched but none succeeded. We all knew it would come to a sprint when we got to the top together. This wasn’t really cool; I don’t dig road sprints, so I pulled the guys to the line from about 5km to go. I tried to lead out James but the other guys were much faster. Anyway i ended up in 6th place just rolled over the line.
The best past of the race was when we were at the finish line and I was chooning all the roadies, telling them that you got to be crazy to do road and that they were missing out big time on not doing mtb,

ESTON ILLOVO

it started off at an extremely fast pace because the king of the mountains was 1km up the road... which i never knew about????

well i caught the guys at the top of the hill but the pace never slowed down , heart rate was pumping!

it was really fast because of the open sugar cane roads , we came in to the 1st single track and i was lien in third place... it wasn't so super smooth and passing all the slow 60km guys sucked! but we got out of it and was still lien in third,,, i just couldn't get on to the wheel of 1st and 2nd and that took its toll, we then got on to an open road and they were strong winds and i was on my own, the other guys were working well together, i held back and waited for 4th place so we could work together, we could just see them about 20km to go,and one of them blew, jedson tooms, we caught him and went straight passed him, but 1st place, kyle dorkin was still about 500m ahead and looking strong, we arrived to a very steep , rocky hill... i thought it would suit me but i was wrong, it was so rocky i was just slipping, the one time my weight didn't help on a climb!!!

any way i was in third now and stayed like that untill the end, it was really fast to the end!

well i was pretty chuffed with every thing... had a good race and my fastest time for the 40km,,, 1h 38min...

Cowan House...

one of the hardest but best race I've eva done!! was extremely fun!,
started of hella fast up da normal steep road out of Cowan house school.... crazy down hill>very dusty!
then it all started to spread out after the 1st single track,,, was lien in about 15th or so , wit the help of David Low's slip managed to get away from Patrick Belton to the top of Swartkop! it was then fast down hill and then a steep single track to the top of Swartkop again... after that was fast rolling, sweet single track and open fast forestry roads which we put da hammer down... i managed to get into 10th place with about 5km to go, and stayed like that to the end , also got 1st in the Youth age group.. was stoked!

looking forward to the Engen Dynamic cycle challenge this weekend!
cheers...
